This is advanced obedience work that I do for my clients that have used me for my regular obedience work in the past. In order to get a truly SOLID obedience dog you need to put them in all different situations. I firmly believe that a dog that was once fearful and skitish can be a strong confident dog with enough training, fun, games and humour that I include in my training.
Your dog is in a sit/stay and a down/stay or in a proper heel. Your dog will continue to stay in that position throughout the following distractions:
I also do the intensive distraction program with all of the distractions to the left with your dog off leash and you are 10-20 and even 30 feet away...you can see the photos of my dogs on one side of a street and me on the other side of the street 30 feet away with cars and people going by.
Your dog will learn to stay in a Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, and Heel Position despite distractions around them, like bikers.
FYI - You will notice that I mention in my distraction section to the left that I expose your dog(s) to people of all nationalities and foreign speakers and this is why:
In todays' society, it is a reality that when a person is walking down the street and they see someone that's different looking & speaking, they can get nervous. This nervousness goes directly down the leash to the dog. So when you see someone that you feel is a threat to you, which is usually unfounded, your dog gets nervous too and can lunge and bark which is not acceptable. Do not send me angry emails on this. I am also aware of the fact that the news & media portray certain groups of people as more dangerous than others. I am quite blunt and direct with my training and I say it like it is. If you are truly interested in making your dog SOLID then you need to be aware of your thoughts, feelings, body language and subliminal signals and how they can affect your dog.
I pride myself in my REAL WORLD TRAINING program. You need to get out of the classroom and out of your house/yard and work on distraction training in order to get your dog to really fully understand what you expect of your dog. Too often we do not expose our dogs to different environments & situations, and that creates problems later in the life of your dog and your family.
