First thing this morning Clover was out working with dogs again…she wanted to work with Roca….who is the largest dog in the kennel..Roca came to me a few months ago…he was scheduled to be euthanized…he did a nice job attacking his owner and put some good bites into her…so I rescued Roca and have been rehabbing him….he is doing quite well…changed dog and I will most likely be keeping him….

Clover has gotten the teaching of the down-stay really well…and could teach most dog owners how to do it….as well as most dog trainers the proper way to do a downstay….

Start with your dog in a heel, when you come to a stop…as you all know your dog should also come to a stop and sit automatically. Notice how her hands are holding the leash…this is the proper way to hold a leash when HEELING a dog..

Then drop your left hand off of the leash , hold onto the leash with your right hand…Say “DOWN”

A split second after you say down..put your left foot on the leash and put your weight onto the left side of your body….this will get your dog to start heading towards the ground… notice how Clover also wants to put her left hand behind Roca’s head…she does not though since she understands that she is not supposed to….

Look at how Clover lifts up her foot slightly so she can then pull up on the leash and her foot acts as a pulley system…

Then remove your foot off of the leash when the dog starts going into the down position

Then walk away from the dog…in my world…down means downstay…so no need to stay “STAY”

I also want to take this moment to let all of the other people and trainers as well as the national organization of dog training that I just dropped out of because I think they are making a disaster out of dog training with this “positive reinforcement training” and calling the use of prong collars “abusive and too harsh” you are all destroying dogs without even realizing…with my method of training I can have a 4year old train a dog without the use of food….do you think that the my 4 year old is being abusive to Roca? Do you think that Clover is being to harsh to Roca? Do you think my 30lb child is being to harsh with Roca who is 100lb and was almost going to be euthanized because he has attacked people and caused much harm to them in his past…..my methods are simple and affective…they communicate with animals in a primal way….my 2 and 4 year old daughters are able to take untrained dogs and rehab them..without the use of food, choke chains, head halters, punishment, bribery or over affection….
